Please see the letter from the Chairman of Tidy Towns Pat Suttle
below outlining Portmarnock Tidy Town plans for 2016.

Pat lists area where we need some help so perhaps if you live nearby you and/or a few friends might consider adopting an area

Dear All
My thanks to everybody who came to the meeting on the 22nd March to start the ball rolling for 2016 Tidy Towns. .
1. Village Floral Decoration - The Portmarnock Village Traders Association are putting an enhanced plan into action this year in which they are investing a considerable amount of funds which is very commendable. The PCA have submitted a grant application to Fingal County Council which we hope will bear fruit in June when our application will be considered.
2. Versailles Boxes in the Village Retail Area. Fingal County Council supplied 6 Versailles Boxes for the area in 2015. These planters together with an additional 6 Versailles Boxes are being supplied in 2016. the traders themselves will water and maintain the planters in the immediate area of the shops. they have requested that we would water an maintain three boxes which will be located at the roundabout(on the path on the left hand side as you travel towards Baldoyle) at the entrance to the village. What will be required here is that the boxes are watered and any dead flowers removed. It would be necessary to check the boxes two or three times a week. The boxes will be put in place in the next week or two. We would require two persons for this task
3. Recycling Centre at the PSLC
There are two tasks here. First one is to paint the container that is very unsightly. Secondly - visit the site three times a week to collect any litter or bottles that have been dumped or not collected. A walk around the outside of the PSLC to collect litter would also be very beneficial. 1 - 2 persons required in this area
4. Rough area of ground between the entrances to Torcaill and Hillcrest
John Walsh has volunteered to organise a group to cut back the grass, rake off the large stones and roughly level the area so that the grass can be cut
5. Flower Beds
a. Dalriada - Fingal County Council have prepared a bed for planting just at the bend in the road. We need two people to plant up the bed and keep it watered and weeded for the year
b. Martello - Fingal County Council have prepared two beds at the sign and also at the entrance path to the shops. We need two people to plant up the bed and keep it watered and weeded for the year
c. Strandmill - Fingal County Council have prepared two beds just beyond the car park at the back of the shops on Strand Rd.. We need two people to plant up the bed and keep it watered and weeded for the year
6. Tree Watering
We need one person in each location to check the newly planted trees.
a. Bottom of Carrickhill Rd. /Strand Rd.
b. Trees beside the soccer pitch at the top of Carrickhill Rd
Check that the tree ties are in place and contact me if there is a period of very hot weather with no rain so that we can organise a group to water the trees
7. Small Beds at the entrances to Estates that are not being maintained at present.
There are a number of beds that are in a fairly sad state of repair. If you see a bed that needs maintenance contact use and we will help you to get going. I expect that we will be able to supply some plants if there are bare areas that require extra planting
I am hoping that all such beds will be "adopted"
IF YOU ARE WILLING TO TAKE ON ONE OF THE TASKS ABOVE OR SEE A POTENTIAL JOB THAT NEEDS DOING CONTACT ME EITHER BY EMAIL OR BY MOBILE. YOU DO NOT NEED TO KNOW ANYTHING WE WILL SHOW YOU HOW TO DO THE WORK. WE WILL SUPPLY LITTER BAGS AND HI VIS JACKETS , FLOWERS AND TOOLS IF NECESSARY
PAT SUTTLE EMAIL: pat@ksagronomy.ie or MOBILE 087 - 2486287
If you have friends or neighbours who would like to join our group pass on their name to me - or just set them to work !!!
If you need assistance call me and hopefully we can put somebody in touch with you
REMEMBER ALWAYS WORK SAFELY - USE HI VIS JACKETS - AND MAKE SURE NOT TO WORK ON THE PUBLIC ROAD WITHOUT ASSISTANCE AND SUPERVISION
Looking forward to hearing from you
